The police in Lagos have arrested a 19-year suspected armed robber in a church where he (suspect) was said to have gone with a gun with the intent to rob.
Spokesman of the Lagos police command, Bala Elkana, who confirmed the incident on Sunday, said the suspect was nabbed during at the church retreat rround and the firearms recovered from him.
According to Elkana “On August 31, 2019 at about 06hrs, Ilemba Hausa Police Station received a distress call from St. Patrick Catholic Renewal Church, Jakande Opened Field, that one motorcycle was sighted conveying three passengers into the camp ground in a suspicious manner.
The passengers mingled among the worshipers who were attending a three-day retreat with intent to dispossess worshippers of their valuables such as handsets, cash”.
Elkana explained that on the strength of the information, patrol teams were deployed to the scene where the ring leader identified as Wasiu Kamarudeen, 19 years old, was arrested and one locally made short gun with one live cartridge recovered from him.
“Their operational motorcycle with registration number OGUN AKM 749 WP was recovered,” he added.
Elkana further noted that the command’ Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) has launched a manhunt for the remaining two suspects, as investigation continues.
He said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation was completed.
