Business transactions in all markets, particularly Onitsha Main Market and environs in Anambra State are safe for both within and outside traders.
Chairman of Onitsha Main Market Vigilante Services, Chinenye Ihenko a.k.a “Okpompi’’ gave the assurance to dismiss speculations making the round that herdsmen have taken over forests in the state in an interview with BusinessDay in Onitsha on Saturday.
We have not received any such report as distraction by headsmen or Boko Haram in any market in the state. However, we have made adequate arrangement for such, thus we are not anticipating their invasion,’’ he said.
We don’t know the authenticity of this rumour, but we are not afraid of them. There is already existing security peace in all the markets in the state. People from anywhere in the world is free to come to any market in the state to transact business. We assure them of their safety.
We have been working in the Onitsha Main market for years and people from all work of life coming here to buy and sell without any molestation,’’ Ihenko affirmed.
He assured traders coming to buy and sale in Anambra markets, particularly the famous Onitsha Main Market not to entertain fears because their safety is guaranteed in the state. They are assured of their protection, both their goods and lives.
Ihenko commended Governor Willie Obiano administration for the proactive political will to make the state the safest in the country which further gave assurance that the state is safe for business and peace.
He commended also the security agencies in the state for giving the state government the maximum support for the current security peace in the markets and state in general.
He appealed to the state government for logistics, particularly operational vehicles for easy movement to further contribute to security peace in the state.
Ihenko called on the stakeholders, traditional rulers, town union president generals, members of the National Assembly, civil society groups and women organizations to join in the crusade to return Nigeria to the part of peace.
He said that the former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo’s call in a letter to the presidency for dialogue by all the sectors of Nigerian society to put a stop to the incessant killings of innocent Nigerians should be taken seriously.
“I wish to align myself with this important patriotic call for national dialogue to take the country back to the path of peace.
“Nobody or place is safe in Nigeria today if the ugly trend is allowed to continue, it can degenerate to catastrophic situation,’’ he said
