Muhammadu Buhari was on Wednesday, May 29, sworn in as president of Nigeria for a second term in office.
President Buhari will steer the ship of Africa’s most populous country for the next four years.
This is his second and final term in office, according to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
Buhari, who was declared winner of the February 23, 2019 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had hinged his campaign for a second term on taking Nigeria to the ‘Next Level’, the title of his campaign document.
With his inauguration on Wednesday, Nigerians await the fulfilment of the promises contained in the ‘Next Level’ document, even though expectations are not as high as when Buhari first assumed office in 2015.
At the swearing-in ceremony held at the Eagle Square in Abuja, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo also took oath of office for another four years.
