Crisis more expensive than maintaining peace, NGO tells Kaduna residents
Programme coordinator of African Centre for Leadership Strategy and Development, Uche Arisukwu, has reiterated the need for Kaduna residents to always maintain peaceful coexistence among the diverse group in the state.
He said it was cheaper to maintain peace than solving problems arising from any form of crisis.
Arisukwu stressed this during a feedback session organised by Centre LSD in Kaduna on Wednesday, where he said: “The amount we will be spending in giving relief materials to the over 2,000 IDPs from the recent crisis in Kajuru Local Government Area is far more than what we have been spending on trainings.”
He noted: “The money we would be spending on relief items in Kajuru would have done more in organising such meetings and for other meaningful interventions.”
He cautioned that no crisis should be interpreted into been communal or religious crisis, saying that violence should be discouraged in its entirety.

According to Arisukwu, the town hall meeting was a follow-up to the previous meeting held before the elections, which was to mitigating violence during the just concluded electoral process in Kaduna State.
The programme coordinator explained that the overall aim of the programme was to have behavioural change, which according to him has yielded positive results compare to previous elections held in the state.
He explained that the crisis in Kajuru started from communal clashes, adding that it could not be separated from politics.
His words: “We were in Kajuru to talk to them and seeking ways to deal with the crisis from the roots. We have told people to live in peace.”
On what relief materials would be distributed, he said they were still computing details.
“We are still doing the computation to get the demographics of the IDPs affected,” he said.
