A local government chairman in Taraba Nashuka Ipeyen, on Sunday advocated the use of electronic voting to ensure that all elections are held in one day.
The Donga council Boss said a situation where elections into different offices were conducted separately was not good enough.
Ipeyen who said holding elections on separate days was not also good use of time and resources, adviced INEC to produce special ballot papers and boxes for people living with disabilities PWDs.
He expressed optimism that the country would “take advantage of technological advancement and switch to electronic voting.
Ipeyen explained,”this will enhance seamless voting process that will enable the electorate to exercise their voting right while going about their normal daily work”.
“I look forward to a time when all the elections can actually happen in one day. This is not a good use of our time. The time we commit to this effort, the working hour, is just too much. So we hope technology will improve, we hope to get to the point of electronic voting and get to the point where everything can be smooth and fast and we can combine work with voting”, Ipeyen Said.
Ipeyen appreciated the people for coming out en mass to exercise their franchise however boasted that the PDP will win Taraba land slid.
Meanwhile the Taraba state governor Darius Ishaku, has on Saturday said the arrest of top PDP members in the state have affected the turnout out of saturday’s election in Jalingo the state capital.
Ishaku made this known while interacting with Journalists in Igautu polling unit 04 Takum, where he voted at exactly 10:22am
Bala Dan Abu senior, Special Assistant to the Taraba state governor on media and publicity who confirmed this to our correspondent in a telephone, said that the arrest was undemocratic.
“Voters in Jalingo are affraid of coming out to vote because of the arrest of Danladi Baido member representing Karim Lamido/ Lau/Arda Kola,and the chairman of Karim Lamido, Idi Mali.
I have lodged a complain but nobody seems to be concerned this is undemocratic”he said
The governor however applauded voters in the villages for coming out in their numbers to exercise their franchise.
You will recall that in the evening of Friday, men of the DSS arrested the member representing Lau/ Karim Lamido/Ardo Kola Daladi Baido, and the chairman of Karim Lamido local government Idi Mali.
