PDP alleges plan to arrest its governorship candidate in Bauchi
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State has raised an alarm over alleged plans to arrest its gubernatorial candidate, Senator Bala Mohammed ahead of Saturday’s election.
This was disclosed by the state chairman of the party, Hamza Koshe Akuyam while addressing a press conference in Bauchi.
He alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led state government the government had been harassing the opposition including attempted arrest of the People’s Redemption (PRP) Rep-elect, Yakubu Shehu Abdullahi, ahead of the February 23 Presidential/National Assembly elections.
He informed that several PDP supporters have been arrested and the plan is to keep them until after the elections which he said will affect the chances of the main opposition party.
The chairman further alleged that the state governor, Mohammed Abubakar, together with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state are also planning to delay the distribution od election materials in the state on Saturday as plan to rig the election.
He urged the national headquarters of INEC to closely monitor the situation of things in Bauchi to stall the plans to manipulate the elections in state.
In a reaction, Governor Abubakar’s Press Secretary, Abubakar El-Sadique denied any plans to arrest the PDP candidate or anybody as the electorates will give him another mandate as they did in 2015.
“we are peace-loving administration and do not need to arrest anybody before the good people of Bauchi vote for His Excellency, Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar massively to renew his mandate come Saturday,”he said.
