President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, directed the Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment, Aisha Abubakar to take over the Affairs of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development with immediate effect.
This followed Buhari’s acceptance of the resignation letter of the former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Jummai Alhassan who has also moved to the United National Democratic Party, UNDP.
Presidency on Sunday, said President Muhammad Buhari has received and accepted the resignation of Jummai Alhassan (Mrs) as Women Affairs and Social Development Minister from his government with immediate effect.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the acceptance was contained In a letter signed by the President on Sunday.
In the letter, Buhari said, “I have received your letter offering your resignation as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I accept your resignation with immediate effect.

“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I thank you for your past services to the nation.”
The president, therefore, directed that the work of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development be looked after Hajiya Aisha Abubakar, the Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment, with immediate effect.
Jummai Alhassan had on Friday last week, tendered her resignation from the government and the All Progressive Congress APC, following her failure of the APC gubernatorial screening committee to clear her for the Governorship election in Taraba state.
Alhassan, it will be recalled had last year, declared her support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who she declared as her political godfather, a position she later recanted
Despite the open declaration however she remained in the government as a Minister.
Speaking on why she was disqualified, the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole said the “minister had not been completely loyal to the APC”
She was also accused of romancing with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirants, despite still professing to be a card carrying member of APC
“From all she had said in the past and even her comments and general attitude during the screening, the NWC reviewed everything taken together and we arrived at the conclusion that she does not possess the level of loyalty the APC requires for her to contest elections on our platform.”
