Portuguese and Real Madrid soccer star, Cristiano Ronaldo has been given two years suspended prison sentence and fined over €18 million for tax evasion.
The Portuguese captain, who is leading his side at the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia right now, is however unlikely to serve any jail time since the Spanish law dictates that for a sentence of under two years for first offence can be served on probation.
Ronaldo agreed to a deal with the Spanish State Bar and accepted the conditions imposed by the Tax Agency, reports El Mundo, after being accused of evading tax commitments totalling €14.7 million.
The Real Madrid superstar recognized four fiscal offenses, which resulted in a prison sentence of two years – six months for each crime – that does not imply effective compliance and payment.
