In a bid to promote spoken words and indigenous content, Askifa.ng, a website created to promote technology cultures and socials has launched in Nigeria.
This is as the website is targeting 60 to 70percent of the country’s population, consisting of the youths.
This development is coming at a time when there is absence of websites that solely promote content and spoken words.
Experts say this is a step in the right direction with efforts to consciously simplify technology terms and jargons through poetry and spoken words for the average man to understand.
Speaking during the debut of the website and a maiden edition of spoken words hangout in Lagos, Charles Edosomwan, chief executive officer, Askifa.ng told BusinessDay that there is currently no Nigerian platform that does as much as four or five million users, adding that the new website will address this gap and deliver content as easy as possible in a simple and relatable manner.
‘The difference between a Nigerian platform and an international platform is the fact that when you read through, you discover that technology gets more complicated. There are a whole lot of technical jargons that comes in between the story.
‘We are now looking at a way to simplify content as much as possible and make them more relatable. This is one of the reasons we are starting this platform.
‘We have organised a monthly spoken words hangout to complement this. Spoken word is also one of the industries within Nigeria that is much neglected but it has a lot of potential. During the last Grammy award, there was a section for spoken word artist but we really do not infuse all of these into our everyday life and this is the reason why we want to deliver technology in a very subtle way and that’s what a platform like Spoken word stands for,” Edosomwan said.
He assured that bringing poetry and spoken word to explain technology is a whole lot more fun and better.
He further explained that ‘People can relate with all you are saying in technology without making it complicated. We are hoping to keep engaging the youths, industries in Nigeria and all other sections in Nigeria.’
The CEO said the website will be launched in Ghana, Rwanda and Kenya in six months.
‘We realised that google has become an oracle and everyone uses it. But we want to have a technology platform that knows and communicates everything technology and that is the reason we have set up Askifa.ng. 60 to 70 percent of Nigeria’s population fall under the youth segment and that is the segment we are targeting,’ Edosomwan said.
