President Muhammadu Buhari has given Friday, March 23rd as deadline for Minister to defend their budgets before the relevant committees of the National Assembly
The President handed down the directives to the heads of MDAs in a statement issued through the office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) on Tuesday.
in the statement, the SGF says the “President directed all Agencies, Corporations and Government owned Companies should submit details of their 2018 budget estimates to the appropriate Committees of the National Assembly not later than Friday 23rdMarch, 2018.”
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha conveyed the directives on Monday 19th March, 2018 to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies in a Circular letter, Ref. No. SGF/OP/1/S.3/XII, titled “SUBMISSION OF DETAILS OF THE 2018 BUDGET ESTIMATES BY FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OWNED AGENCIES, PARASTATALS AND CORPORATIONS TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY”
He directed that the agencies comply with the provisions of the law and honour invitation to defend their estimates timely.
The Circular enjoined supervising Ministers to ensure timely compliance with the content of the Circular.
Senate President Bukola Saraki had while speaking after a meeting with the President recently hinted that both the Executive and Legislature had agreed to fast tract the passage of the 2018 Appropriation bill, but said much will depend on the response by Ministers to defend their budget .
