KWIRS seals FMBN over N14m tax deficit
In its efforts to further enforce compliance among taxpayers, Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), Monday, sealed Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) for failure to remit the sum of N14, 750,313,18.
The enforcement was sequel to withholding tax, bank interest and inability of the bank to comply with the service order on several notices.
Speaking with newsmen on the matter, Lateef Okandeji, the director of legal and enforcement of the service, posited that they swung into action to enforce compliance with the agency after all necessary statutory notices were served on them.
“It has been a serious matter between KWIRS and the management of Federal Mortgage bank in respect of outstanding liabilities and withholding taxes that covers the period of 2010 and 2015 in the sum of Fourteen Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand, Three hundred and Thirteen Naira, Eighteen Kobo (N14,750,313,18),” he said.
The director added that, the Agency had resorted to lawful means in order to ensure compliance with statutory tax remittances.
He warned that the revenue house might resort to selling movable properties of the bank if it doesn’t comply with the service request, just as he said any company found to have evaded tax would not be spared.
BusinessDay observed that the officials of the bank, located at Asa Dam Ilorin, were stranded as they hung around and outside the bank’s premises.
It would be recalled that the agency started enforcement with Skye Bank, and FMBN is the second bank sealed in Ilorin, the state capital.
