The Ministry of Defence in conjunction with the Military Pensions Board (MPB) has concluded arrangement to begin verification of more than 90, 000 military retirees in the board’s pay roll.
Brig.-Gen. Adekunle Adesope, the Acting Chairman of the board made this known on Monday at a news briefing in Abuja.
To this end, Adesope called on military retirees on the pay roll of the board to make themselves available at centres designated for the exercise in the 36 states and FCT.
He said that the verification would hpld from Nov. 27 to Dec. 9.
According to him, retirees from the rank of Private to Lance Corporal and its equivalent will be verified between Nov. 27 and Nov. 30, while Corporal to Sergeants will undergo the exercise from Dec. 1 to Dec. 3.
“Verification for retirees from the rank of Staff Sergeant to Army Warrant Officers and their equivalents will be conducted from Dec. 4 to Dec. 5, while 2nd Lieutenant to Captain and their equivalents will hold on Dec. 6
“Major to Colonel and equivalent on Dec. 7, Brigadier-General and above on Dec. 8, while all absentees of the stipulated dates and those critically ill and hospitalised will take their turn on Dec. 9.
“Pensioners are enjoined to honour these dates in view of the fact that they are part of the crowd control measures designed for an orderly and successful conduct of the exercise.’’
Adesope, however, said that the team leaders of each centre were at liberty to attend to “groups on dates not allocated to them if all those originally allotted had been attended to and time permits.’’
Adesope listed the documents required from the pensioners for the exercise to include Retired Officers Identity Card, Pension Advice, Bank, Account Number and Bank Verification Number – BVN, for “Retired Officers.’’
He said “Discharged Soldiers, Rating and Airmen/Airwoman’’ should come forward with “Discharged Certificate, Service Discharge Identity Card, Pension Advice, Bank Account and BVN.’’
The chairman said that retirees under “Medically Boarded Personnel’’ should provide “Discharged Certificate, Service Discharge Identity Card, Pension Advice, Bank Account Number and BVN’’ for the exercise.
He noted that the exercise was for only retirees that were on the board’s pay roll as at Oct. 2017, and warned that verification by proxy would not be allowed.
Adesope also warned that pensioners would not be allowed to change their banks, account number or any other personal details during the verification.
