Governor of Lagos state Akinwunmi Ambode on has today inaugurated a 45-man oil-producing community relations committee to liaise with government and oil companies operating in Badagry. The aim is to avert crisis and ensure a conducive operating environment in the oil-bearing community of Badagry.
The committee is expected to handle Intra and inter community-related issues with the oil companies and government and quickly resolve any disagreement before it escalates. He noted that Lagos being the commercial capital of Nigeria cannot afford to be thrown into a crisis or slip into the level of environmental degradation and vandalism similar to that in the Niger Delta.
The committee is made of community and traditional leaders including the Akran of Badagry, officials of state government, members of the National Assembly representing Badagry among others.
Petroleum is currently exploiting oil from the Aje oil field in Badagry, a development which put Lagos among the oil-producing states in Nigeria and entitled it to 13 per cent derivation.
