With a growing desire to help grow financial literacy, increase access to market data, and bridge the gap between fear and greed on the part of investors in the Nigerian stock market, Meristem Securities limited, a stockbroking firm recently launched MeriGame in Lagos to stimulate investors’ interest in the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
MeriGame is a virtual game design to bring people up to speed with the practice and actual trading in the stock market, with the intention of helping players migrate from the gaming platform unto realtime trading in stocks through the MeriTrade platform.
Wole Abegunde, GMD Meristem Securities Limited, in a statement at the launch said trading successfully in the stock market requires some technicalities, which MeriGame was design to bridge. “Stock trading by oneself is generally perceived to be scary and doubt-ridden. MeriGame is here to demystify the process while setting users up to trade real-time confidently,” he stated.
According to Bode, users get funded with virtual funds to simulate financial capacity in real life trading as well as regular tips and recommendations to guide them in making choices on stock trading.
MeriGame has a community forum that allows users and admin relate and get further clarifications about the platform and market trends. The game also has an inbuilt referral system that allows users refer people and get more virtual funds in return to increase their purchasing power on the market simulator.
On MeriGame, users get to practice how to buy stocks under real market conditions without burning a finger or finance while standing a chance to win financial reward. As a simulator, it helps users master the act of self-trading on the stock market.
However, the market simulator has a reward system tagged MeriGame championship, designed to run like a football league with breaks in between. The championship rewards the top three winners financially with N150, 000 at the end of each championship season. The top three traders with the highest returns on the platform win the game.
