The Ad-hoc Committee set up by the leadership of the House of Representatives to investigate the status of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) on Wednesday directed Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and office of the Auditor General of the Federation (oAGF) up to November 2017, to provide detailed reconciliation and audit reports of the amounts generated so far.
Over N7 trillion was reportedly accrued into the TSA account since the implementation of the policy initiated by the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in 2015.
Abubakar Danburam (APC-Kano), who presided over the public hearing held behind closed door at the National Assembly complex, Abuja, stated this while giving update on the series of meeting held with relevant agencies.
One of the stakeholders who spoke during a meeting held in August 2017 informed the Ad-hoc committee that there were still leakages in collecting funds from agencies despite the existence of TSA.
He explained that the ultimatum became necessary in order to have clear records of the actual amount accrued into the account domiciled with the apex bank.
Danburam said at the initial stage, the committee met with all the affected agencies to know if they were truly remitting what they are supposed to remit.
“We can’t get to the bottom of the matter if we don’t have the audit and reconciliation reports from the Auditor General and the CBN.
“That’s why we gave them up to November to produce both the audit and reconciliation reports on TSA.
“At the end of the day, we want to know if the system is truly working, but without the reports, we can’t know,” the Kano lawmaker said.
Danburam said the ultimatum also affected some agencies and commercial banks which serve as bankers to various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
