It was really nice to see Jamie Fox again in a brand new action movie. He has featured in movies like “Django Unchained” and “White House Down”. His latest movie, “Sleepless” shows us how undercover Las Vegas Police officer Vincent Downs was webbed with some rogue cops. The movie, “Sleepless” was a thriller movie with non-stop action from the very beginning till the end. Whenever we thought we had seen the best of them all, a new set of bad guys were introduced. It was a beautiful movie no doubt, but not one of Jamie Fox’s best movies.
This action thriller movie was packed with esteemed actors. There was Jamie Fox as Vincent Downs, Gabrielle Union as Vincent’s wife, Michelle Monaghan, Dermot Mulroney, David Habour, T.I, and Scoot McNany. This movie was directed by Bann Ba Odor and the script was written by Andrea Berloff.
The story line depicted how a group of cops discovered a large amount of hard drugs belonging to a renowned drug baron and confiscated them. Unknown to them, someone was giving out insider information. This led to the bad guys kidnapping Vincent’s son. This drug discovery started a mini war between the bad guys and the cops.
Vincent Downs was indeed the hero of the night. He fought all through this movie with a bad cut on his stomach. I guess the love for an only son can make you do more than you can ever imagine. Also, the constant calls from his wife kept him on his toes. As the bad guys were not going to stop until they recovered all their drugs, Vincent had to cooperate with them.
There were credibility issues with Vincent carrying the drugs back to the bad guys, saving his son, and proving that he was innocent at the same time. It was at the very end I could understand what he was trying to prove and find out. The breakthrough point for Vincent was the phone conversation between the team leader and his partner, discussing on how they needed to get the drugs back to the Don of the drug group.
Without knowing whom to trust, he sought out who the traitor was alone. This kept us anxious until the culprit was revealed. I would not disclose who the person was as you would have to watch “Sleepless” for yourself. The highlight of this movie were the last few scenes. It was survival of the fittest as the bad guys needed to do away with Vincent. His wife stepped up to defend him and it became a case of the whole family fighting for their lives.
To my verdict I would say “Sleepless” deserves a 6.5/10. The action was okay, cast and production were good, but I think some scenes were over stretched and unrealistic. For action and thriller movie lovers this a good movie to see.
