Feet and Tricks International, a sports and entertainment company aimed to develop and nurture the art of freestyle football has launched ‘Nigeria National Freestyle Football Championship’ in Lagos, Nigerian freestyle football competition.
Speaking at a press conference to announce the commencement of the tournament, Valentine Ozigbo, Chairman of Feet and Tricks international, said, “This platform is setup to promote freestyle football under the support of World Federation of Freestyle Football (WFFF), in the annual freestyle super ball. ‘Feet and Tricks are on the edge to provide an enabling environment for the sustainable development of freestyle football in Nigeria and beyond.”
He added that the company is creating a platform which freestylers, who can use their feet and other parts of their body to show great control of the ball and can showcase their talent to the world.
“Feet and Trick signed an agreement with the World Federation of Freestyle Football (WFFF) as a license owner of freestyle football championship in Nigeria. The company has a five years development plan, which has been endorsed by (WFFF) signed with the world body.”
The Freestyle Championships kick off on the July 22, 2017 in Lagos, and the winner will represent Nigeria at the Super Ball in August 2017 in Prague.
The company is expected to expand its championship to sub-regional tournaments to cover each of the six geo-political zones in Nigeria, starting from 2018.
The sub-national (unofficial) competitions will hold in the months leading up to the National competitions, which will hold in July every year from 2018. Winners in the regional championships, top freestyle athletes will be selected to compete at the National Championship.
The 2017 National event will be classified under the official National competition with coefficient one (the sub-national competitions for subsequent years will be classified under unofficial competitions with coefficient 0.5). This event will have the full rating of a one star event from (WFFF), its targeting sixteen participants for the male category and eight for the females category for the finals.
Interested athletes are to register on the platform and upload a 30 seconds video of them free styling. These video entries will be subjected to a screening process by professional judges before being shortlisted for the online voting.
