B-LUX Paints Limited, a paints manufacturing outfit based in Umuahia, the Abia State capital has been awarded the Nigerian Industrial Standards (NIS-MANCAP) certification for two of its products-emulsion and test coat by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).
The 2 products according to SON officials have met Nigeria’s industrial quality standards, consequently, B-LUX emulsion and texcoat paints will now carry NIS-MANCAP logo on their containers, a sign of quality.
Joseph Ugbaja, head, Abia State office of SON, while handing over the certificates and logo to Bright Nwaiwu, managing director, B-LUX Paints Limited, Thursday, in a brief ceremony at Aba office of SON, affirmed that the company has met all the requirements for the award of NIS-MANCAP certification and logo on the two products.
“We have been visiting the company for the past one year and found a lot of consistency in their product’s quality after testing. Consequently, they have met the stringent requirement for our Nigeria Industrial Standards for emulsion and testcoat paints.
He congratulated the company for the feat and urged them to aim at surpassing the minimum standards set by SON, stressing that there is still room for improvement.
He also stated that SON will continue its quarterly surveillance on the company to ensure that it does not deviate from its quality that qualified it for certification and warned that SON will not hesitate to withdraw the certification if it deviates from the set standards.
“So, we want to tell you to keep up with the good work. But I will not fail to remind you that the certificate is on loan to you and SON has right to withdraw it, if the quality with which we gave you the certificate is no more there.
“We will make sure that every holder of our NIS certificate comes out with quality products. And we want to assure you that very soon, you will discover that this certificate that you just received today is a marketing tool, because it leads to increase in profitability and even your market share will increase, as a result of this certification,” he observed.
He explained that the regulatory body is making deliberate efforts at sensitizing the populace on the need to patronize only locally made products with Nigeria’s mark of quality-the NIS logo on it, noting that SON would soon rid the market of products without NIS mark.
He urged manufacturers in the area yet to certify their products to as a matter of urgency rush down to the Aba office of SON to obtain the MANCAP form, which will enable the standards body to schedule them for inspection.
The idea of the programme according the SON boss is to ensure that every locally made product has an NIS sign on it.
A highly excited Nwaiwu, in his response said the certification, would spur him and his team to surpass the approved minimum standards and promised to continue to work with SON to ensure that consumers get value for their money.
