Commissioner rewards information officers, calls for due diligence, team work

As part of a deliberate effort to motivate its workers,  Akwa Ibom State ministry of information and strategy has  rewarded information officers who have distinguished themselves in  the line of their duties.
 
Charles Udoh, commissioner for information who also commended the recognised staff members for emerging best information officers awarded stressed the importance of prompt dissemination of information on government activities  to engage the people with government programmes and policies to  help them make informed choices.
 
“This event is to appreciate your work and to encourage you to do more, with little resources; we can make a huge difference.
 
“Today we have a team that is passionate, I cannot do it all alone, our dream is to make Akwa Ibom State website the best website in the country,’’ the commissioner said.
 
The commissioner who also announced that the ministry has constituted a team to develop content for the state’s website said that already the website is running and is updated accordingly.
 
The award which came in various categories attracted a cash prize of N20, 000 each and a certificate of recognition.
 
The commissioner who promised to provide the workers with basic tools and a conducive atmosphere to enable them perform to their optimum capacity  urged them to work as a team and ensure diligence in the dissemination of information of government activities while congratulating those who were recognised as the best information officers.
 
 Earlier,  Praise Okon, permanent secretary in the ministry lauded the award as an innovation introduced by the commissioner saying  he has brought  new perspectives to media management and information dissemination in the state.
 
Okon who said that those selected are  to inspire others to do more and challenged those who were not identified to ensure that the award would challenge them to strive to recognition in subsequent ceremonies.
 
He said the award would be a quarterly event to motivate the workers.
Among those were recognised as the best information officers were, Uwem Kerms who is the in-charge of the governor’s office information unit, Lilian Mbong, information officer attached to the state house of assembly and Charity Joseph who is the information officer in Uyo local government area of the state among others.
