Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger says the State Government will resuscitate moribund cottage industries for economic development.
Bello said this when he received the technical committee on partnership between the state and Bank of Industry (BOI) led by its Chairperson, Hanna Lanko, in Minna on Tuesday.
He said there was need for the state government to revive and develop the moribund indigenous cottage industries to improve on the state’s socio-economic activities.
Bello, represented by the Chief of Staff, Mikail Bmitosahi, said the present administration would revive all moribund cottage industries to stimulate the micro economic base of the state and reduce rural-urban drift.
According to him, under the new “Restoration Agenda”, government will give priority to the cottage industries to make them viable.
“We are prepared to take advantage of the natural endowment in the state to make them productive and operational.
“Government is planning to give adequate support to the existing cottage industries and local entrepreneurs who are ready to exploit and develop our indigenous endowments.
“Such effort will assist in boosting the micro-economic activities in the state. We are ready to invest in projects that are sustainable for our indigenous natural endowment.”
He said such resuscitation would help develop rural areas and improve standard of living of the less privileged in the society.
The governor attributed the neglect of indigenous and natural endowment to the past administrations “as they were responsible for most liquidation of cottage industries in the state.’’
