The Kebbi State Commissioner for Education, Muhammadu Aliero, has commended UNICEF for supporting the campaign to increase children enrollment in schools.
Aliero gave the commendation at the inaugural meeting of a health care delivery and sensitization programme in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
He said the state government has started providing counterpart funding for UNICEF’s Educating the Child project while the campaign was underway in 12 other local government areas not covered by the intervention.
The commissioner commended UNICEF for its intervention, stressing that the programme would encourage less-privileged parents to enrol their children in schools.
Earlier, the state commissioner for High Education, Maigari Dakin-Gari, said poverty and health challenges were major
factors hampering full enrolment of children into schools.
UNICEF Field Officer in Sokoto, Muhammad Muhiuddin, said 18 local government areas of Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi States benefited from the UNICEF intervention project.
According to him, nine of the local government areas were in Kebbi State.
