Benue BIRS charges stakeholders on taxpayers’ enumeration
Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) has charged stakeholders most especially trade unions in the state to key into the taxpayers enumeration which is due to commence in due course.
Chairman of the service, Mimi Orubibi Azakpe, gave the charge Sunday at a stakeholder’s forum with chairmen and secretaries of trade unions in the state, which held at the JS Tarka Foundation in Makurdi.
She explained that owing to the present economic realities occasioned by dwindling oil revenue, all state governments in the federation were compelled to look inward. The case of Benue she stated further was pathetic giving that the state was underdeveloped with a near complete absence of industries from where it could tap tax revenue.
She appealed to the forum to sensitize members of their various organisations on the need for them to key into the Ercas Integrated Solution consultant so as to avail them first hand information on how the enumeration exercise was going to be carried out.
The forum was also aimed at seeking for opportunities as well as brainstorm on how best the state could carry on with the business of taxation wearing a human face.
