The Bishop of Anglican Communion, Calabar Diocese, Tunde Adeleye, has described Nigeria at 56 as a nation still crawling and still making efforts to stand on its own. Adeleye, who gave the assessment while speaking with BDSUNDAY in a telephone interview, said the poor are still being marginalised and cheated and that the schools and hospitals are still ill-equipped.
According to the cleric, “We are still struggling in darkness as power. We are still doing things in very cruel ways as the system itself is not decent despite the fight against corruption. The country is still unsafe as there are still pockets of instability in various forms. All attention is given to corruption while other sectors suffer.” Adeleye said that Nigeria needs God.
“We thanked God at 56; we need a free avenue to worship God freely,” he said, adding, “It seems our leaders are still religious bigots, giving attention to one religion over others; that should not be encouraged as there is only one Supreme Being.”
