Lasun tasks Nigerians on career development before delving into politics
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sulaimon Lasun Yussuff has admonished Nigerians to develop themselves in their areas of specialization before delving into politics.
Sulaimon Lasun Yussuff explained that self development is key to nation’s growth rather than involving in politics with the sole aim of stealing government money which could be taken away at any time when it is discovered as an ill-gotten wealth.
Lasun who described Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, All Progressive Congress elderstateman as a great man who made his money before going into politics, said: “That is why it would be difficult for him to go down any time he quits politics, he has stable source of income, he never depended on politics for survival unlike some politicians that go down immediately they are no longer in politics or power.”
Deputy Speaker while speaking at the Ileya fiesata organised by Allahu Afeez Muslim Organisation in Osogbo, Osun State where Shiek Buhari Omo Musa gave a sermon on self righteousness, urged Nigerian youths to develop themselves and excel in their areas of endeavor and not to depend solely on politicians.
Lasun who was practically responding to the appeal made by the Shiek Omo Musa on good governance, said that it is unfortunate that most Nigerians do not know what governance is all about.
“It is true that some leaders are bad but the major problem confronting the nation is the way people perceive governance, they think that the government should do everything for them, whereas, in the real sense of it, people are supposed to be driving the economy of the country.
“Over dependence of the people on the government is what is affecting our economy, until people wake up from their slumber and realise that it is not business as usual, the situation will remain and this will not augur good for everybody.
“People run after politicians for the immediate gains even when they organise skill acquisition programme and try to empower them, they prefer to sell off the equipment given to them for a token,” he wondered.
He however appealed to Nigerians to give the APC government a chance to clean up the mess created, adding that the orientations of the people on governance have to change.
Earlier in his sermon, Shiek Buhari Omo called on the government to consider peoples’ situation by ensuring that their conditions are improved.
