Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state on Monday tasked Nigerians to embark on serious prayers for President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders in Nigeria in order for them to have God’s guidance on economic recession and other pressing issues bedevilling the country at present.
He also urged Nigerians to make sacrifice and be patient with the government in its effort to move the country’s economy out of recession and difficult conditions that affect Nigeria’s economic growth and development, saying that “after suffering abundant joy will come, tough time do not last but it is only tough.”
Governor Amosun, who spoke shortly with journalists shortly after Eid-el-Kabir Prayer at Lantoro, Abeokuta Muslim Prayer Ground, appealed to Nigerians to continue to support the government with their prayers, stressing that, “it is only when we pray for our leaders that they will experience God’s direction.”
While urging Nigerians to continue to coexist peacefully and love one another, the governor said, “I believe that, it is only tough times that bring the best out of the people of this nation, that is why, all of us are thinking out of the box.
“We know that money is hard to come by these days and that is why, we have to work very hard. With where we have found ourselves, with where we are coming from, it may be appearing like things are very tough now, like we are almost getting to the corner but once we just take the bend, we are going to be on the right path and we will all get there.
“My message to Nigerians is that we are on the right track, we do not expect that things that have been bad for years will just be normalised in one or two years. No, even four years is not enough, eight years is not even enough to fix the rot in government, that is why whatever you do with two terms, let other fresh hands come in.
“I appreciate all Nigerians for their support so far and I urge them to continue with their support for the government and I know that Nigeria will be better for all of us at the end of the day.”
Earlier in his sermon, the Chief Imam of Egbaland, Alhaji Liadi Orusolu urged Nigerians to be more patient and supportive to the government’s policies and activities, saying that “only the people that have patience enjoy the gains of life.
“Whether there is money or not, whether the economy is good or bad, we should be patient with our government, support them, pray for the nation and pray for our leaders to always do the right thing. Islam as a religion does not support tribalism, sectionalism. Islam preaches peace and we should always be at peace with one another.”
