We now know the main reason behind Manchester United‘s decision to bring Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Old Trafford – in fact there are about seventy six million reasons.
United are known to have the most profitable marketing team in world football, with the money men hired by the Glazer family unlikely to miss a trick that could earn them a few quid.
So, when Jose Mourinho opted to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer, the Red Devils hierarchy would’ve been all too happy to finance the Swede’s big wages, because they knew exactly how much they would make back from shirt sales and advertising revenue.
But even the most optimistic employee inside United accounting department probably wouldn’t imagine the club would rake in an astonishing £76million from fans buying the red home shirt with ‘9 Ibrahimovic’ on the back in just the matter of one week.
According to The Sun, that’s exactly what’s happened.
And if the sales continue, Zlatan could end up financing the world record transfer deal for Paul Pogba all on his own.
To put the figure into perspective, Leicester City’s entire title-winning squad cost just £54 million in total. Incredible, eh?
What do you make of the numbers? Are United putting money before the team?
