Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has upheld the election of Yahaya Bello as the duly elected governor of Kogi State.
The tribunal led by Justice Mohammed dismissed the petition filed by the former governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada, on the grounds that Bello’s nomination was in line with the Electoral Act and that Wada not being a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had no right to challenge the process.
Justice Mohammed held that the 21 days period for the substitution of a candidate did not apply since Yahaya Bello was a member of the APC.
Wada had filed a petition against the emergence of Bello as Kogi State governor, on the basis that the present governor of the state was an interloper who had no business with the election.
The same court had earlier dismissed a petition filed by James Faleke, the running mate to the late governorship aspirant, Abubakar Audu under the APC.
