Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, and the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, have both expressed optimism of the Federal Government’s commitment to tackle infrastructural decay among myriad of challenges confronting the nation.
In a separate New Year messages, the chieftains of the governing party sued for unity and patience from Nigerians, just as they promised that the Buhari-led administration would spend wisely in capital projects that would bring about the needed infrastructure and public amenities that would in turn generate massive employment for ready hands.
Atiku said that in the face of dwindling oil fall, there was need for major stakeholders to support the Federal Government in the drive to diversify the ‘ailing’ economy.
“Our country can longer relish being a petro-dollar mono economy in the face of global oil glut. Thus, our unity in diversity and huge population will come in handy for the diversification of the ailing economy; provide jobs for millions of unemployed youth, and save the society from crime and criminality.
“It is crystal clear even to his harshest critics that President Muhammadu Buhari means well for the country and intends to spend big and wisely in capital projects that would bring about needed infrastructure and public amenities that would in turn generate massive employment for ready hands. The least I can ask of you is to support him on his avowed commitment to make Nigeria work for all of us,” Atiku said.
On his part, Odigie-Oyegun said year 2016 would witness the full implementation of the party’s campaign promises.
“I want to give a firm assurance that all the promises made by the party in respect of the 2015 election to Nigerians will be kept. The New Year holds great dividends for Nigerians when the policies of the President Muhhamadu Buhari-led administration are enforced full blast in the 2016 financial year,” Odigie-Oyegun said.
He added that the N6.08 trillion ‘Budget of Change’ presented by the President to a joint session of the National Assembly on December 22, 2015, provided ample framework to deliver on these promises.
While the APC national chairman promised that the Buhari-led government would not derail in any of his plans in the new year, he however appealed to members of the Senate and House of Representatives to rise above political, regional and ethnic sentiments and pass the proposed 2016 budget, which according to him “is pro-people and in the overall best interest of Nigeria.”
