Medview Airline, a Nigerian indigenous airline, has announced its inaugural flight from Lagos to London Gatwick Airport from Friday, November 20.
The airline has also announced its intentions to start with four weekly flights on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with an introductory fare (economy class) as low as N149,000. Speaking at the announcement in Lagos, Muneer Bankole, CEO, Medview Airline, said the UK CAA, Nigeria CAA and the Foreign Affairs Ministries had given Medview Airline all approvals required to operate direct flights between the two countries.
According to him, “We have also secured slots at Gatwick southern Terminal with the good train service (Gatwick Express), Limousine Services from Business Class and bus connections to Victoria Station and various points in central, South and East London.
Bankole explained that Lagos-London route has remained one of the busiest routes in the world, yet remained most expensive, adding that it is against this background that Medview Airline is entering the route as a Nigeria flag carrier to supply capacity, reasonable fares, good customer care and excellent in-flight entertainment.
He assured that passengers on economy will enjoy a 32kg 2-piece baggage allowance, while those in Business class are entitled to a 3-piece baggage allowance of 32kg each.
In addition, African/continental meals will be served on board with variety of music and films to compliment. The 767-300ER aircraft, christened ‘ABEKE’, which will be used for operation has a configuration of 30C/191Y seats.
“On West coast, we are extending our frontiers to Monrovia-Liberia and Freetown-Sierra Leone. Accra, Ghana, which entered our networks last year September is in full swing. We are already in Jeddah with four weekly flights via Lagos, Abuja and Kano. Dubai is secured and what is left is to announce a date,” he added. Kola Sanyer a Nigerian trained by Medview Airline was announced as a new captain on board, after passing through rigorous training and mentorship.
Godfrey Ogbogu, Head of Flight Operations reiterated that Medview has been investing so much on training its staff and will not relent in giving its staff world class training.
He disclosed that November 20th for the inaugural flight to London coincides with Medview Airline’s 3rd anniversary of scheduled operation, which started with domestic flights on November 8, 2012, adding that the domestic network has expanded to include Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Yola, Enugu and Maiduguri, while Kano and Kaduna will soon join the union
