Calm appears to have returned to Rivers State on Monday despite the impeachment threat hanging over Siminalayi Fubara, the State governor, and Ngozi Odu, his deputy.
This is even as Justice Simeon Amadi, Rivers State Chief Judge, kept mum over the impeachınent process, declining official comments on the State Judiciary’s participation in the process.
The Martin Amaewhule-led State House of Assembly had on Friday requested the chief judge to set up a seven-man panel to probe the governor and his deputy over allegations of gross misconduct.

The Assembly claimed it had submitted the letter of request to the chief judge that same day.
A visit to the Office of the Chief Registrar, on Monday, could not yield any information as to the chief judge’s next line of action. Our reporter could not meet the chief registrar either for comments.
Meanwhile, the State seems to have returned to calm following the governor’s reassurance on Saturday.
Residents of Port Harcourt were seen going about their businesses, on Monday, with the tensed atmosphere of last week seemed to have disappeared.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara, despite the impeachment threat hanging over his head, was on Saturday, quizzed about the impeachment notice served him and Ngozi Odu, his deputy, but described it as a “love letter.”
Governor Fubara, during the Polo tournament in Port Harcourt, made light of the impeachment, rather stressing his administration’s commitment to delivering good governance to the people of Rivers State.
Also, opposition parties in Rivers State have called on the State House of Assembly and Justice Simeon Amadi, the Chief Judge, to follow due process in the discharge of actions surrounding the impeachment process.

Abednego Benjamin, Chairman of the Rivers State Chapter of Boot Party, and Darlington Nwauju, Spokesperson of the Emeka Beke-led faction of the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress APC), urged them to adopt constitutional provisions in the proceedings.
