The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Daniel, has ordered the arrest of police officers who assaulted a tricycle rider.
A viral video shared on social media platforms showed the tricycle rider being assaulted by the police officers.
It is not clear when the incident occurred or what transpired between the rider and the police officers, but the Police Public Relations Officer, Musa Mohammed, in a statement at the weekend said the officers were in custody.
The statement said Iyamah condemned the police brutality in strong terms as it was unacceptable and contrary to professional policing standards.
Mohammed also said that disciplinary proceedings have commenced on the offending officers in accordance with the Police Act and other extant regulations.

The statement reads in part: “The attention of the Bayelsa State Police Command has been drawn to a viral video making the rounds on social media platforms, allegedly showing Police officers assaulting a tricycle (keke) driver.
“The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, has condemned the act in strong terms, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to professional policing standards. He reiterates that the Command does not tolerate any form of human rights violation, unprofessional conduct or brutality.
“The officers involved have been arrested and disciplinary proceedings have since commenced in accordance with the provisions of the Police Act and other extant regulations.”
According to the statement, the Police Commissioner reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of the rights and safety of all citizens while ensuring lawful and professional policing in the state.
