…commends donors for their support
Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, on Wednesday said the National Library construction appeal fund had reached a total of ₦25,520,708,074.35 as of December 31, 2025.
The amount was donated to the Oluremi @65 Education Fund, launched to support the construction of the National Library Complex as her birthday gift to Nigeria in September 2025.
The First Lady said the initiative was driven by her passion for education and the need to complete the edifice, which was first initiated by former President Shehu Shagari in 1983 but was abandoned by successive administrations.

The Federal Government had estimated that about ₦200 billion would be required to complete the project under the 2025 budget.
In a statement personally signed on Wednesday to mark the end of the donation period, Tinubu expressed appreciation to Nigerians, family members, friends and well-wishers who generously supported the Oluremi @65 Education Fund, created to commemorate her 65th birthday on September 21, 2025, towards the construction of the National Library.
She reminded Nigerians and donors across the globe that the donation account for the Oluremi @65 Education Fund would be shut on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
According to her, “Your support affirms our shared commitment to education, the preservation of knowledge and national development. I am deeply encouraged by the goodwill and unity this initiative has inspired.”
She had earlier announced that the project would be domiciled under the supervision of the Minister of Education, adding that any further support should be channelled through the ministry.
“As of today, a total of ₦25,520,708,074.35 (Twenty-five billion, five hundred and twenty million, seven hundred and eight thousand, seventy-four naira, thirty-five kobo) has been donated to the Oluremi @65 Education Fund,” she said.
The statement, however, did not disclose whether the funds had been formally handed over to the authorities supervising the National Library project.
