…warns airlines on consumer rights compliance
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has commenced a nationwide passenger awareness campaign across airport terminals as part of measures to protect air travellers during the yuletide travel season, while also warning domestic airlines to strictly comply with consumer protection regulations.
The four-day campaign, which began on Sunday, December 21 and runs through Wednesday, December 24, 2025, was launched at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and is being replicated across all airport terminals in the country.
The initiative is being coordinated by the NCAA Consumer Protection Department.
Disclosing this on the Authority’s official X handle on Tuesday, Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, said the campaign is aimed at educating passengers on travel safety, their rights as consumers, the importance of timely arrival at airports, and the appropriate channels for lodging complaints during the festive period.
According to him, the exercise features direct engagement with passengers, distribution of flyers and gift items, as well as on-the-spot sensitisation by scores of NCAA Consumer Protection Officers deployed to various airports nationwide.
As part of efforts to reinforce compliance, the NCAA also held a meeting with representatives of domestic airlines, including Rano Air, United Nigeria Airlines and XeJet, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Monday.
The engagement focused on reported breaches of NCAA Part 19 Regulations, particularly provisions relating to consumer rights in cases of flight delays and cancellations, refunds, care and accommodation, and passengers’ right to timely and accurate information during the busy yuletide travel season.

Achimugu stressed that airlines are obligated to fully comply with the provisions of Part 19 Regulations, warning that persistent non-compliance would attract appropriate regulatory sanctions.
He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to ensuring that air passengers are treated fairly and protected from avoidable inconveniences, especially during peak travel periods.
