Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has assured Nigerian fans that the team is determined to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco as a response to their disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification playoffs in November.
The Galatasaray goal poacher made this known in an interview with Sporty TV in Morocco, where the Super Eagles are preparing for the continental showpiece.
Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s Group C opener against Tanzania in Fès, Osimhen admitted that the World Cup setback was painful for both players and supporters but stressed that AFCON presents a fresh opportunity for redemption.

“For us, last month was really disappointing. It’s not how we thought it could be,” Osimhen said.
“But I think life has happened. Of course, we’ve moved on, but the memories still linger.”
The 26-year-old acknowledged the emotional toll the failure has taken on fans at home and in the diaspora, vowing that the team would channel that disappointment into a strong AFCON campaign.

“We want to use this opportunity to send a clear message out there that we still have it in us,” he added.
“So we’re going to give our all to make sure we actualise this dream of trying to win the AFCON. But it’s not going to be easy. We still have a long way to go. I’m positive about this squad.”
Osimhen also praised the technical crew and the overall atmosphere within the camp, describing preparations as intense and encouraging.
“The coach has been doing an amazing job since the camp opened,” he said.
“The squad spirit is high, training has been very intense, and everyone is focused.”
