The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of more than 760 senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to various higher ranks.
According to a statement by Torty Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of the Commission on Thursday, this development followed the successful conclusion of rigorous written examinations and oral interviews.
It noted that the promotion exercise, which was finalised on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, took place at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, and was presided over by Hashimu Argungu, Chairman of the PSC.
“On the promotion list is Mohammed Gumel, Assistant Inspector-General of Police , who was elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG).
“Until his promotion, Gumel served as the AIG in charge of the Community Policing Project (CPP), Research and Planning Department at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja”, the Commission.
In addition, the Commission promoted seven Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs).
They are Ihebom Chukwuma of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja; Maxwell Olatokunbo of the K9 Unit; Abaniwonda Olufemi, Commissioner of Police, Delta State; Alonyenu Francis Idu, Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police; Lawal B. Ayodeji of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), FCID Annex, Lagos; Agene Emmanuel of FCID Kaduna; and Vungmoh S.M. Kwaimo, Commissioner of Police in charge of the Railway Command.
Thirteen Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were also promoted to the substantive rank of Commissioners of Police.
Those elevated include Babalola Ayodeji Johnson of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC); Ali Umar Fage of the Directorate of Forensic Analysis (DFA), Port Authority, Lagos; Cyril Uche Obiozo, Deputy Commissioner of Administration, Cross River State Command; Adepegba K. Adetoye, Deputy Commissioner of Administration, Edo State Command; and Tabitha Bako of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, FCID.
Others promoted to CP include Ofem Ikpi Arikpo of Bayelsa State Command; Edwin Ogbeghagha, Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Zone 17, Akure; Audu Garba Bosso, Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Borno State Command; Samuel Yerima Gimba, Deputy Commissioner “A”, Benue State; Alhaji Mohammed Danladi, Deputy Commissioner “A”, Taraba State; Richard Bala Gara of the DFA, Nasarawa State; Lasisi Adekunle Titilola of the X-Squad, Force Intelligence Department, Lagos; and John Obiuagbaka of the Police Staff College, Jos.
The Commission further elevated 30 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs).
Among them are Muhammad Nuhu Diggi of Dala Area Command, Kano; Dr Udu Moses Ogechi, Commander, 59 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Gombe; Afolaogun Toyin, Commander, 16 PMF, Abeokuta; Hassan S. Aliyu of 13 PMF; Alex O. Ebbah of the X-Squad, FCT Command; Ajasa Hakeem of 4 PMF, Ibadan; and Adedeji Adefolarin of Ilesha Area Command, among others.
In the same exercise, 51 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs). They include Davidson Okechukwu Ndubueze, Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Okija; Muktari Bello of the Delta State Command; and Obediah Okezie, DPO, World Bank Division, Umuahia, among others.
A total of 542 Superintendents of Police (SPs) were also elevated to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police. Beneficiaries include Ekere Ferdinand, Commander, Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) Base 1, Abuja; Anthony Elijah Kwada, Officer-in-Charge of Provost, IGP Special Task Force, Police Intelligence Bureau, Abuja; Lucas Yohanna, former Aide-de-Camp to the Adamawa State Governor; Ologede Babatunde of 20 PMF, Ikeja; and Lucky Chukwusa, Divisional Crime Officer, Sango Ota Division, Ogun State, among others.
Similarly, 119 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) were promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police. Among them are Ahmed Abdulmumuni, Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Imo State; Simon Michael of 22 PMF, Ikeja; Utuh Edward of 24 PMF; Shehu Salisu of the Kano State Command; Chukwu Otuu Chukwu of Zone 2, Lagos; and Ani Kingsley of the GIS, FCID, Abuja, among others.
The Commission also approved the promotion of 12 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
Speaking at the conclusion of the exercise, Argungu congratulated the newly promoted officers and reminded them that promotion comes with increased responsibilities and higher expectations.
He urged them to demonstrate greater commitment, professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
Argungu reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to sustain regular, merit-based promotions in line with global best practices, stressing that the goal remains effective policing, improved protection of lives and property, and the maintenance of law and order across the country.
