The African energy community, partners and industry stakeholders are marking the thirty-eighth birthday of Olakunle Williams, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tetracore Energy Group. His influence in the natural gas and power space continues to shape sector activity across Nigeria and parts of the continent.
This year’s birthday follows a recent milestone. On 3 December, Lead City University, Ibadan, conferred on him the Doctor of Business Administration in recognition of his record in the energy sector. The conferment adds to a career built on consistent involvement in gas development, industry strategy, cross-border energy supply and organisational leadership. It also aligns with ongoing discussions about expanding Africa’s natural gas capacity to support industrial growth.
Williams’s career began in finance and advisory. At Akintola Williams Deloitte, he worked as a Senior Tax Consultant and received the Outstanding Tax Consultant award for the 2011/2012 financial year. During this period, he supported major multinational firms including Agip Energy and Natural Resources, Heineken International and Siemens Nigeria, advising on tax planning, mergers, acquisitions and investment structuring.
His move into the national energy space came with his work at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company. He contributed to the establishment of the Nigerian Gas Marketing Company and supported gas marketing initiatives that supplied more than twenty-five million standard cubic feet of gas per day within two years. His role in widening gas supply into the West African region positioned him as a voice within cross-border energy integration efforts.
Williams studied Law and graduated with First Class Honours from Lead City University. He also holds an international Master of Business Administration. His professional affiliations include Fellowship of the Institute of Management Consultants, recognition as a Certified Management Consultant and certification as a Project Management Professional. He is also a member of the International Bar Association, the Chartered Institute of Taxation and the Institute of Arbitrators.
His work at Tetracore Energy Group represents the core of his contribution to the energy sector. Under his leadership, Tetracore manages the largest gas trading portfolio in Nigeria, supplying more than ninety million standard cubic feet daily. The company supports more than three hundred megawatts of industrial power generation across the country. Its forty-million-cubic-feet City Gate in Edo State supplies more than eighteen industries, while the compressed gas facility in Ogun State supports industrial operations across the southwest corridor.
Tetracore is also developing a ten-million-cubic-feet LNG plant and a one-hundred-megawatt power project, both structured to strengthen long-term energy security. With a regional shipper’s licence, the company is expanding its gas footprint into Ghana, including the development of the first compressed gas mother station in Tema. In Central Africa, he has supported liquefied gas infrastructure designed for power generation and industrial manufacturing.
Williams has received various forms of recognition from industry bodies and regional institutions. He has been named Nigeria Domestic Gas Ambassador and listed among the twenty-five energy personalities to watch in Africa. His work has earned the Innovative Gas Company award, the Fin Forbes Award of Excellence, the Vanguard Energy Icon award and the Nigeria Energy Champion award. He was also listed in the Choiseul 100 Africa ranking, which identifies influential young leaders on the continent. More recently, he received the Business Icon of the Year award and the Professional Doctorate and Corporate Leadership Excellence Award in Ghana.
As he marks his thirty-eighth birthday, industry stakeholders are reflecting on his contributions to national and continental energy development. His work continues to support businesses, industrial clusters, regional energy access and ongoing conversations on Africa’s gas-driven growth.
The energy community, partners and stakeholders are extending their goodwill as he enters a new year. Many describe his journey as one marked by purpose, direction and a clear focus on long-term value creation.
