Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Islamic scholars across Nigeria and Africa to uphold the values of dialogue, moderation, accommodation, and inclusivity, describing them as the true heritage of Islam.
Shettima made the call at the burial of the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, noting that the revered cleric embodied the enduring message of tolerance and peaceful engagement.
He stressed that Islam’s foundations are rooted in dialogue and inclusivity, “not fanaticism, not extremism.”
“The nation has lost a colossus, an institution, and one of the last great titans of Islamic scholarship,” the Vice President said.
He added that the cleric’s death is a monumental loss not only to Nigeria but to the global Muslim Ummah.

Shettima urged scholars to preserve and propagate the legacy of the late Tijjaniyya leader, whose lifelong commitment to unity and understanding, he said, must guide future generations.
