Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed receiving an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), saying he is ready to appear before the agency.
Malami disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Friday, describing himself as a law-abiding citizen committed to transparency in public office.
“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he wrote.

He said his decision to announce the invitation publicly aligns with his long-standing advocacy for openness in governance. “I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — principles that I both advocate and champion,” he added, noting that he would provide updates as the situation develops.
Malami served as attorney-general from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, a period marked by high-profile corruption cases, asset recovery efforts, and several contentious legal decisions that drew domestic and international scrutiny.
In his final years in office, he faced criticism over issues relating to asset declarations, procurement approvals and the handling of recovered funds — allegations he repeatedly denied.
The EFCC has not yet provided details on the nature or scope of its invitation.
