Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim issued a damning assessment of his squad after their humiliating 1-0 defeat to 10-man Everton at Old Trafford.
United failed to break down Everton’s backline despite playing with a numerical advantage for over 75 minutes following Idrissa Gueye’s red card for slapping teammate Michael Keane.
The defeat marked the first time in Premier League history that United had been beaten at home by an opponent who received a red card.

Amorim, who marked his first anniversary as Manchester United manager with the defeat, expressed deep frustration.
“We are not there, not even near the point that we should be to fight for the best positions,” he said. “We have a lot to do. We have to be perfect to win games, and we were not perfect today.”
The Portuguese coach said the team lacked urgency and failed to respond to the atmosphere inside Old Trafford.

“When we see the results of the weekend, we should get onto the pitch with a different excitement. Old Trafford was there, saying, ‘We are all here for a big step up.’ And we were not ready.”
The defeat also raised fears for Amorim of slipping back into the struggles of last season, when United finished 15th and failed to qualify for Europe.
“I feel afraid of returning to this feeling of last season,” he admitted. “That is my biggest concern. We need to work together. The players are trying, but we need to be better.”
Everton’s win marks David Moyes’ first at Old Trafford in 18 attempts and has mounted fresh pressure on Amorim after what had been an encouraging five-game unbeaten run.
