…As intelligence has increased from 10.5% to 68%
…Uninterrupted product passage on Trans Niger Pipeline due to zero infraction
Attempts to vandalise pipelines in the eastern corridor of Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Bayelsa states have reduced by 87%, so said the protection firm manning the zone.
This is said to have been achieved by increased use of community intelligence which they said has increased from 10.5% to 68%. Town criers have been incorporated to spread information fast in communities for prompt actions that mobilise actions against attacks.
As a result, flow of products on the once vulnerable TNP which was shut down at a point for months, has remained steady in the present period without loss of time or products, all due to zero infractions.
These figures were released by the Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) which held its monthly stakeholders briefing on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at an event centre on Olu Obsanjo Road in the D-Line area of Port Harcourt.
Mezeh Akpos, general manager, Community & Stakeholders Relations of PINL, who briefed traditional rulers in the area, chiefs, youth leaders, women, and security agencies, gave more scorecard as sustained increase in crude oil and gas production in the Eastern Corridor, and sustained peace and stability in the oil and gas communities due to increased sense of ownership of the people in the pipeline surveillance operations.
On strategic priorities going forward, he mentioned sustaining 100% pipeline protection, maintaining zero vandalism across all PINL-covered segments of the TNP, expanding empowerment programmes such as women entrepreneurship, youth technical skills, small and medium business development, strengthening community intelligence; and deepening intelligence flow through traditional rulers, youth structures, and town criers.
Akpos praised the engagement strategy of PINL with stakeholders to get feedbacks and said it has brought many useful outcomes.
He mentioned operational stability across the Eastern Corridor
security and operational stability on the Eastern axis of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) as examples. This he said, has led to a huge reduction of attempts since the company took over.
He stated: “Our surveillance operations and mandate have been extended to cover all oil and gas facilities in proximity to TNP.”
He said the community-based intelligence which increased from 10.5% to 68% reflects deeper trust and stronger cooperation with traditional rulers, youth structures, and contractors.
“These achievements belong to us all. We deeply appreciate the vigilance of our royal fathers, youth leaders, surveillance teams, and community contractors whose tireless commitment makes these results possible.”
He also mentioned other outcomes such as women empowerment programme of 2000 women, scholarship grants, etc, saying these would be monetized before end of 2025.
He also named community inclusion and expansion, saying; “PINL continues to operate an inclusive, transparent, and community-centered model:
The Biseni community has been fully integrated into our surveillance and intelligence network.
“Additional communities are being considered for possible integration, subject to technical and security assessments.”
