A former Lagos PDP governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, says local governments now have no excuse not to perform following increased funding approved by President Bola Tinubu.
Adediran, founder of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, made the remark on Wednesday during the 100-day celebration of Oto-Awori LCDA Chairman, Abiodun Kareem.
The 2023 PDP candidate, known as Jandor, noted that councils enjoyed unprecedented financial freedom under the current administration.
He said the council’s early achievements showed what prudent and transparent management of unrestricted funds could accomplish.
Adediran thanked President Tinubu for raising local government allocations, saying the reform had strengthened grassroots governance across Lagos State.
He insisted councils must now deliver tangible services because funding challenges previously cited had been addressed nationally.
He also praised Lagos council chairmen for their commitment to community development under the new funding structure.
Adediran said Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu deserved commendation for ensuring full and direct release of council allocations without interference.
He described the governor’s approach as crucial to the successful rollout of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda at the grassroots.
The politician hailed Kareem for completing a legislative building regarded as essential infrastructure for local lawmaking.
He said the chairman’s donation of patrol vehicles to security agencies showed a strong commitment to public safety and order.
Adediran presented a N5 million cheque donated by Kareem to the G12 Women Development Fund Cooperative.
He said the gesture demonstrated support for women’s empowerment programmes aimed at enhancing household income.
According to him, councils across Lagos were performing better because funds now reached them without deductions or bureaucratic delays.
Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, said improved grassroots funding had significantly boosted local government achievements.
He said Oto-Awori LCDA completed its legislative building within 100 days because resources were now consistently available.
Ojelabi urged youths to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and support development-focused leadership at all levels.
He said greater youth participation would help sustain growth and ensure continuity across council administrations.
his remarks, Kareem said he met infrastructural decay across schools, health centres, roads and drainages upon assuming office.
He said the council immediately began repairs in spite of limited resources and multiple competing demands.
Kareem said his administration prioritised projects that directly improved daily living conditions for residents of the LCDA.
He listed the legislative building, patrol vehicles and N250,000 support for 100 residents as key achievements within 100 days.
He said the welfare support targeted vulnerable households affected by economic pressures and rising living costs.
Kareem assured residents that more projects would follow as the council stabilised and improved its revenue base.
He said ongoing assessments of schools and health facilities revealed urgent needs that required sustained attention.
Residents at the event praised the chairman for initiating visible improvements across the LCDA.
They said the projects restored confidence in local governance and encouraged deeper community participation.
Party leaders and stakeholders commended the collaboration between council officials and community groups.
They said such cooperation was vital for sustaining development and addressing long-standing infrastructural gaps.
The event drew party leaders, council staff, residents, women’s groups and youths from across the LCDA.
