Garba Maidoki, the senator representing Kebbi South, says he is optimistic that the female students abducted from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, will be rescued within days.
Speaking on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Maidoki said intelligence gathered so far indicates that the abductors are still within the senatorial district.
“We have a fair idea where the girls are, and we are sure they have not moved outside the Kebbi South senatorial district. There is high hope that the girls will return home in one or two days”, he said.

The lawmaker described the attack, which led to the killing of the school’s vice principal as the most distressing moment of his political career.
“When we heard of the kidnapping of the Chibok girls, we thought it was too far away… today, it is right in the middle of my house,” he said.
Maidoki said he visited Maga shortly after the incident to console affected families and reassure them of ongoing efforts by security agencies.
He noted that improving security was the foremost promise of his campaign, stressing that he will work closely with the federal and state governments to ensure the children returned safely.

“This will not be like the Chibok girls. They will come back home,” he added with certainty.
The Monday attack on the school has once again drawn attention to the resurgence of school kidnappings across Nigeria.
In April 2014, Boko Haram abducted 276 students from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, more than 90 of whom remain missing to date.
