Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday welcomed former Kogi State governor Wada Ichala Wada, who has moved from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shettima also received Samuel Abenemi, the deputy governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), along with several other prominent opposition figures from across the state.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice President expressed delight at the wave of new entrants.
“I am pleased that good governance is taking root in Kogi State. This marks a new chapter for the APC in Kogi and indeed throughout Nigeria. I am particularly delighted to receive an elder statesman like Capt. Wada; we are united in our progressive vision,” he said.
“What is happening in the APC is more than just a coalition; it is a gathering of influential individuals in Kogi State and Nigeria. You have joined a family dedicated to bringing peace and progress to the people of Nigeria. You will not regret becoming part of this progressive movement.
“I will return to Abuja to deliver a message to Mr. President. The message from the Confluence State today is that President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s victory in 2027 is certain.

“I want to express my gratitude to the people of Kogi State for speaking with one voice.”
At the brief but colourful ceremony, all the new members, led by former Governor Idris Wada, received their APC flags individually.
In his acceptance remarks, Wada said he was pleased to officially join the party.
“It is my pleasure to finally join the ranks of the progressive family,” he said.
“There are many reasons why I joined the APC. First, this party is truly progressive. Second, President Tinubu has a clear and commendable vision for our country. He made a wise decision by removing the fuel subsidy, which has led to a daily decrease in food prices. The naira has appreciated against the dollar, and our economy is showing signs of recovery. The President has taken our country out of a distressed economic state.”
