Arik Air has announced the resumption of flight services to Benin Airport effective Sunday.
The resumption followed the re-opening of the airport by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) after the runway had been rehabilitated.
enin Airport was temporarily closed by FAAN three months ago to facilitate rehabilitation works on the airport’s runway.
The closure was initially scheduled to last 20 days but was further extended by FAAN.
Arik Air said it would operate one flight each from both Lagos and Abuja into Benin on Sunday, and thereafter revert to its normal schedule as from September 7, 2015.
Arik Air operates mainly from two hubs at Murtala Mohammed Airport Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.
The airline currently serves 19 destinations across Nigeria as well as Accra (Ghana), Banjul (Gambia), Dakar (Senegal), Freetown (Sierra Leone), Monrovia (Liberia),Cotonou (Benin Republic), Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire), Douala (Cameroon), Luanda (Angola), London Heathrow (UK), Johannesburg (South Africa) and New York JFK (USA). The airline operates a combined number of about 120 daily flights from its hubs in Lagos and Abuja, and has been Africa’s fastest growing airline for the last five years.
