Waidi Shaibu, chief of army staff, has lauded the remarkable improvement in the security situation in Enugu State under the administration of Governor Peter Mbah.
Shaibu, gave the commendation on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House, Enugu, as part of activities marking the closing ceremony of the Nigerian Army Regimental Sergeant Majors’ (RSM) Conference 2025 held in Enugu.
The army chief expressed appreciation to Governor Mbah for his continued support to the Nigerian Army, describing the governor as a dependable partner in the quest to enhance security across the country.
“I came to pay a courtesy visit to His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and to appreciate him for all the support he has been providing to the officers and men of the Nigerian Army,” Shaibu noted.
“From the brief I have received, and from all indicators, security in Enugu State has improved tremendously”.
Speaking further, the COAS described the RSM as the critical link between officers and soldiers, noting their vital role in maintaining discipline and regimentation within the army.
Governor Mbah, in his remark, congratulated Shaibu on his appointment, praising his proactive approach to addressing security challenges across the country.
He attributed the significant improvement in the security of lives and property in Enugu to the dedication and sacrifices of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.
“I had just told him that his appointment is, for me, a case of putting a square peg in a square hole, given his antecedents and what we know he has accomplished,” the governor said.
“In terms of our relationship with the Army, we could not have achieved the level of peace and security we currently enjoy in Enugu without their active support. We see this as a partnership that will continue to grow stronger”.
Governor Mbah also commended President Bola Tinubu for his sustained policies and investments aimed at strengthening national security.
He pledged his administration’s continued collaboration with the Nigerian Army in advancing the president’s overall security objectives.
Shaibu was accompanied on the visit by senior officers of the Nigerian Army, including Olufemi Olatoye, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division, Enugu.
