The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered and handed over ₦104m in unremitted taxes to the Niger State Government following an investigation into tax violations by Kiara Rice Mills Limited, a multi-billion-naira agribusiness operating in Mokwa Local Government Area of the state.
The funds, totalling ₦104,091,162.46, represent the company’s outstanding tax liabilities accrued between 2021 and 2024.
The handover was conducted on Wednesday at the EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate in GRA, Ilorin.
Dele Oyewale, EFCC spokesperson, said the recovery followed intelligence received in February 2025, indicating that the firm, located in Kpatsuwa Village, had failed to remit its full tax obligations despite operating profitably, an infraction of both federal tax laws and Niger State’s revenue regulations.
According to the EFCC, an investigation by its Foreign Exchange Malpractice Section confirmed the breaches and led to the recovery of the entire outstanding sum.
“The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC has handed over the sum of ₦104,091,162.46 to the Niger State Government. The recovered sum represents the company’s unremitted tax liabilities accrued between 2021 and 2024″, the statement said.
Speaking during the handover, Ola Olukoyede, EFCC Executive Chairman, represented by Ansalem Ozioko, Ilorin Zonal Director, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to ensuring that public funds are properly accounted for and returned to their rightful owners.
“The function of the EFCC is to prevent, investigate and prosecute economic and financial crimes, recover what was stolen, and return it to the rightful owners. That is exactly what we are doing here today,” Olukoyede said.
He urged the Niger State Government to sustain its partnership with the commission and promote transparency and accountability at all levels of governance.

“We urge you to continue partnering with the Commission and to be ambassadors of the EFCC by reporting any act that fails the integrity test,” he added.
Receiving the recovered funds on behalf of the state, Aminu Bawa, Group Head of Tax Operations at the Niger State Internal Revenue Service, commended the EFCC for its diligence and professionalism.
“On behalf of the Niger State Government, I wish to express our sincere appreciation to the Commission for this commendable recovery effort. This development will have a direct and positive impact on the lives of our people,” Bawa said.
He noted that the funds would be credited to the state government’s account and deployed for developmental projects across Niger State.
