As preparations build up ahead of the 2027 general elections, a political group under the banner Youths for Tinubu has declared its ambition to mobilise at least six million votes for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Speaking with journalists on Monday, the group’s convener, Mike Nwoko, said the initiative was conceived to rally young Nigerians, especially those just turning 18, to register, participate actively in politics, and support the president.
According to Nwoko, the group plans to deploy “every necessary tool” to secure widespread youth backing for Tinubu, whom he said “has done remarkably well in repositioning the nation for economic growth and development.”
“President Tinubu means well for this country, especially for the youths who are the leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
“It is in our collective interest to support him for a second term.”
Explaining the group’s approach, Nwoko noted, “All we need to do is to have a data-driven process about Nigerian youths that have attained voting age and bring them into the pool.
We have platforms at zonal, State, and Local Government levels, and we will engage them constructively.”
He added that the group would build an “organic followership” among young Nigerians, supported by a sustainable database to track engagement.
“We will be hitting about 10 million youths in the next couple of months,” he stated confidently.
Nwoko said the organization’s primary goal was clear, “Our overall objective, which is clearly spelt out as our target, is to mobilize six million votes for Mr. President in 2027. We want to ensure our party’s candidate wins with a wide margin.”
Addressing questions about opposition movements, Nwoko dismissed any concerns about the Obidient Movement, describing it as “no threat” to Tinubu’s chances.
“Dislodging the Obidients’ movement is not a problem at all,” he said. “We’ve had wide consultations with key leaders of our party, and we’ve resolved that what happened in the 2023 presidential election will not happen again.
“We were taken by surprise then, but I can assure you the President has taken care of that.”
