Manchester United are considering former England manager Gareth Southgate as a potential replacement for Ruben Amorim, whose position is under increasing scrutiny following the club’s shambolic 3-1 defeat to Brentford, according to talkSPORT.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly held direct talks with Southgate in recent weeks.
The 54-year-old, who stepped down as England coach after Euro 2024, was previously considered when United appointed Amorim last November but opted against a return to club management at the time.

Other names on the club’s shortlist include Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola.
Amorim’s reign has faltered badly, with United collecting just 33 points from his 34 Premier League matches. His side have conceded the opening goal 21 times during that spell and are yet to win back-to-back league fixtures under his management.
Overall, the Portuguese has won only nine of his 33 league games in charge, losing 17 and drawing seven.
United paid around £9.2m to secure Amorim from Sporting CP and would face a £12m compensation bill if they were to dismiss him within the first year of his contract.
Although Amorim has insisted he would walk away without a payoff, insiders suggest his dismissal would still come at a significant financial cost.
The pressure is mounting after heavy defeats to Brentford and Manchester City, and while the club hierarchy is reluctant to pull the trigger prematurely, Southgate’s availability has brought his name back into the frame as the search for stability continues at Old Trafford.
