The Lagos State ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems has commenced registration for farmers interested in participating under the Produce for Lagos scheme.
The N500 billion initiative, launched in July 2025, is targeted at stimulating increased food production for the Lagos market through structured off-take agreements.
A statement signed by Abisola Olusanya, commissioner of Lagos State ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, disclosed that farmers under the scheme will enjoy direct access to a secured market where their produce will be purchased at guaranteed prices.
This arrangement will reduce the risks of quality and volume fluctuations, promote price stability for consumers, and increase farmers’ incomes.
Also, it will expand opportunities for inter-state agricultural trade, enhance logistics and distribution networks, and strengthen the entire food supply chain.
“The Programme focuses on both boosting food production within Lagos and establishing strategic partnerships with farmers in major food-producing States across the country,” noted Olusanya.
According to her, by enrolling, farmers will be integrated into a central database which will serve as the foundation for planning, interventions, and the delivery of support services under the programme.
Farmers are encouraged to register via the official link at the ministry’s website.
With a population of over 24 million residents and rapid urban growth, Lagos remains the single largest consumer of food in Nigeria.
