Keir Starmer, British prime minister is reportedly looking at ways to slash global talent visa fees which costs £1801 to zero, in a move designed to make the United Kingdom (UK) more attractive to experts as the United States (US) takes a tougher stance on immigration.
This strategy is also a response to the US executive order, which some see as an opportunity for Britain to attract talent that might otherwise have gone to the US.
Global Talent visa fees currently costs £766 per person, plus an additional £1,035 per person health surcharge will be slashed.

The UK’s global talent visa, which was launched in 2020 is aimed at leaders in science, technology, and art such as those from top universities or who have won prestigious awards.
Sources suggest that Starmer’s global talent taskforce is exploring proposals to streamline visa applications and cut administrative costs for foreign academics and tech experts.
UK businesses have complained to the government that the costs and complex paperwork are a major deterrent.

Treasury officials are also believed to be involved in the discussions, which aim to boost economic growth by luring skilled individuals to the UK.
The move comes as President Donald Trump announced a massive increase in fees for H-1B visas, now costing a hefty $100,000 (£74,096).
The White House has also urged American companies and universities to prioritise hiring US nationals for senior roles.
The number of global talent visas granted in the year up to June 2023 saw a 76 percent increase, rising to 3,901. The Home Office has stated that the visa is meant to attract “leaders, or have the potential to be leaders, in their field.”
